Dr. Samridhi Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor

Samridhi is an evolutionary biologist interested in studying the genomic basis of evolutionary change in nature. Her research integrates evolutionary biology, ecology, genomics and inter-specific interactions to characterize the evolutionary processes shaping patterns of variation across the genome through space and time. Samridhi earned her Ph.D. with Dr. Zach Gompert at Utah State University and then did a postdoc with Dr. Robin Hopkins at Harvard University and Dr. Noah Whiteman at UC Berkeley before moving to New Orleans. She was born and brought up in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India and moved to U.S.A. to pursue her doctoral studies.

Ph.D. Students

Kehinde Ologbonjaye

Kehinde Ologbonjaye is from Nigeria. He graduated from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria with a B.Sc in Environmental Biology and Fisheries. He then got his Master’s degree in Environmental Biology and Public Health from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria where he studied genotoxic and oxidative effects of bisphenol A on the stages of spermatogenesis in Swiss Albino mice. He has also applied botanicals in the control of insect pest. For his Ph.D., Kehinde is broadly interested in ecology, genetics, and toxicology.  His current research interest is to investigate the evolution of plant-insect interactions in human-impacted environments.

Lakshmi Vineesha Digumarthi

Vineesha is from India.  She completed her Bachelor’s in agriculture and Master’s in Genetics and Plant breeding where she pursued research on genetic diversity among black gram varieties to identify the best cultivars that can be used as parents in future breeding programs and developing molecular profiles of these varieties using DNA fingerprinting. With a background in agricultural breeding and genetics, Vineesha wants to explore the impact of climate change on genetic variation of natural populations and their evolutionary response to climate on both spatial and temporal scales.

Undergraduate Researchers

Jack Sherley

Jack Sherley is an undergraduate at Tulane who is studying music and taking courses to prepare for a career in the sciences. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and his family relocated to Seattle, Washington in 2012. Since the move, Jack developed an interest in the outdoors. Jack plays the bass and is a member of Tulane EMS, Tulane’s on campus ambulance service. In the Chaturvedi Lab, jack is working on image annotations to develop computer vision models to measure phenotypes from digitized museum images. Some of Jack’s other interests include exercising, sports, and seeing live music.

Postdoctoral Scholars

I currently do not have any funding for postdoctoral positions in my lab. However, if you are interested in applying for fellowships through NSF or NIH, please get in touch and we can discuss possible research ideas and opportunities.
